Persons with Disabilities Online
This Service Canada website gives access to services and information for persons with disabilities, family members, caregivers and all Canadians.
The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability benefit
The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability benefit is available to people who have made enough contributions to the CPP, and whose disability prevents them from working at any job on a regular basis. The disability must be long lasting or likely to result in death. People who qualify for disability benefits from other programs may not qualify for the CPP disability benefit.
The Disability Tax Credit
Individuals who have an impairment in physical or mental functions that is severe and prolonged may qualify for the disability tax credit.
The disability amount is a non-refundable tax credit that a person with a qualifying impairment can claim to reduce the amount of income tax he or she has to pay in a year. This amount includes a supplement for persons under 18 years of age at the end of the year.
